Market FOOD Money program.
The Brooks Farmers’ Market FOOD Money Program is a food insecurity initiative (putting food into hungry bellies) that supports farmers’ markets (bringing people to the market) and strengthens food security (keeping farmers farming).
How it Works
Where do people get Market FOOD Money?
Community partner organizations, Seniours Outreach, BCIS, Crossroads Clinic, and EID Ministerial provide Market FOOD Money to individuals they identify as needing financial assistance to purchase food.
What can Market FOOD Money be used to buy?
Market FOOD Money can be used to buy any but only food.
Why is Market FOOD Money only eligible for food?
The objective of the program is to support participants in accessing food.
“I love it I love It; it is so Fresh!”
- response from a Market FOOD Money participant who has a daughter living with a disability that has put her on a very specific diet. This diet costs more than what the family can afford. The child needs to eat a lot of fruits and vegetables.
This program will serve as a model for other Farmers’ Markets in Alberta.
We are focusing on maintaining the integrity of the program to ensure we are trusted to continue the program in our community.
Everyone can benefit from this program. People with coupons can make additional purchases at the Brooks Farmers’ Market which can directly benefit all the vendors, our market and our community.
